Mount Lemmon The Santa Catalina Mountains rising to an elevation of 9,157 feet above the desert floor of nearby Tucson, offer some of the best climbing in Arizona. More than 1,200 climbing routes can be found on the Mountain, making Mount Lemmon one of the most popular climbing areas in the state. Almost all of Mount Lemmon's climbs are on south facing crags, offering the best winter, spring and fall climbing weather in the country. The Mount Lemmon Highway climbs more than 5,300 feet and passes through five of North America's seven distinct life zones, providing comfortable weather year round. Mount Lemmon provides an equal amount of diverse rock climbing, from classic multi-pitch traditional routes to bolted sport climbs. |

Cochise Stronghold One of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Arizona is the Dragoon Mountains. The central area of the Dragoons, with a maze of cliff-lined canyons, ridges and domes is called the Cochise Stronghold after Cochise, a respected Apache chief. The "Stronghold" offers some of the best climbing in the west. It's a beautiful somewhat remote place that offers superb, multipitch routes up faces riddled with chickenheads, as well as wonderful crack climbs. The granite and
weather are ideal for rock climbing. The rock is extremely featured
with numerous flakes, edges, and large handholds called "chickenheads."
Year-round climbing weather can be found, with the best times being
spring and fall. Winter also offers great climbing weather, with mostly
sunny |
